Self-build With Green Technology: The Moodie House

Self-build with green technology: the Moodie House

Insulated concrete forms (ICF) is an insulated in-situ concrete system comprising hollow blocks or panels, usually made of polystyrene, and ready-mix concrete. The system provides a number of benefits including lower energy bills, lower maintenance, increased sound insulation, ease and speed of construction, and a solid, durable wall that will outlast traditional stick frame forms. The cost is comparable to 2 x 6 construction (0- 5% increase in construction cost) but if you self-build, as the owners of this house did, the savings are multiplied.
